  • Let me explain how it works when you self host like me:

    • “All” starts out completely empty, there are no federated instances to find this way.
    • You then have to browse communities on other instances and subscribe to them on your own instance. Only then will posts start showing up in “All”.
    • Since there’s only 1 user, the list of communities in “All” is the exact same list of communities in “Subscribed”

For most people yes, you can just browse “All” unless you’re on a smaller instance, since someone on your Instance has probably already subscribed to the community you’re looking for.

  • all American social media companies are guilty

I don’t disagree with you, but you’re arguing about switching to another US company when nobody is suggesting that.

    The petition says:

transition official government communications away from Twitter/X to more secure, community-regulated platforms that prioritise public safety, accurate information, and accessibility. We encourage the government to explore publicly accountable alternatives, including decentralised networks, to ensure reliable and responsible communication with Canadians.

This seems like the opposite of American social media companies. What part do you disagree with? Facebook and Google are quite clearly not “publicly accountable alternatives”

  • I’m wasn’t really talking about reassessments, which is up to the property owner to request. The property value is updated every 4 years automatically, and the change in taxes are spread out gradually over those 4 years. If there was a massive drop in value 3.5 years ago, then sure, that sucks a little, but the next 4 years will compensate. Ontario has a lot of steps to go through before your unpaid tax debt turns into asset forfeiture, I can only assume tenants have more protections in Canada. Evicting someone from their primary residence has its own huge list of rules.
