I meant what I said. Capitalism is a mode of production that is relient on the endless expansion of profit. The company must increase its profits every year in order to deliver them to its shareholders. This endless expansion of profit entails an endless expansion of production which also means increased energy usage. There was hope for the “green growth” strategy but realistically speaking that solution is impermanent. In order to decrease our consumption we must also decrease our production but this is not possible under capitalism.

Oligarchy is just capitalism expressing the control of profit over governance in a more naked way. The superstructure of government is beholden to the material base of capitalism, not the other way around unfortunately.

I am almost certain he believes in it or atleast the many other capitalists he is beholden to do. They pretend it does not exist because it poses an existential threat that is unsolvable through capitalism. They cannot admit to the workers that it is real because fixing it would require deconstructing the system that empowers them.

The motives behind the actions of these groups are vastly different though. A corporation silencing anti-establishment speech is not equivalent to lemmy moderators abusing authority in their micro-feifdoms. Still frustrating of course but the reasons and effects are quite different

It could also be the US recognizing that it needs to decrease its sphere of influence in order to strengthen it. Perhaps focusing its imperialism on the Americas as global hegemony becomes unsustainable. These are the only conclusions I can come to without giving in to conspiracy.

The long term goal is rebuilding US industry. We have been a finance/usury economy for a very long time and it is starting to become unsustainable. By forcing American consumers to buy American products Trump creates a greater incentive for manufacture with the goal of building a more self-sufficient economy. Think vertical integration but on a nationwide scale. Trump and the capitalists he represents don’t care about drug smuggling or hurting the Canadian economy, they intend to re-industrialize and that means protectionism.

I will note that it isn’t unlikely that they do want to hurt the Canadian economy specifically so that it is easier to invade at a later point (because global warming will limit American resources) but this is secondary to re-industrialization.

Seems a lot of us are making this tough decisions recently. Truly no one can tell you what is best but I think if you feel you can still be a good influence on them then you should try. If not then don’t risk them being a bad influence on you.

My partner is chronically ill and disabled. I am not, we have been together for 5 years. Don’t get me wrong it can absolutely be difficult and it was at first but its routine now and I’m genuinely unbothered. Being inconvenienced sometimes is nothing if it means spending my life with them. I am also in my twenties

Yes, he will only get more anti-China with time I imagine. The ideological opponent to fascism is always communism. On a more material basis China is stepping on United States profits. The main target will be the prevention of BRICS membership in Latin America imo
