Can’t deny that there’s a really big difference between late 60s rock and 40/50 rock, though - it’s not really wrong to consider it a new genre, even if it appropriates the name of the older genre.

I always thought that a lot of singers in bands who write their own music and often play an instrument at the same time should focus more. Even in bands that write their own music, it’s not necessarily the singer who writes their lyrics, melodies and chords.

“writing and composing” is a bit broad, anyway. Do you exclusively do covers of other people’s songs where you copy the original singer exactly? If so, cool, that’s pretty hard to do well! If not, you’re writing/composing/improvising vocal parts, and that’s a skill, too.

It does look pretty messy when I make it, so that’s definitely true! Making it look professional is a high art, especially at speed.

It’s also a great way to trick myself into eating more vegetables (don’t tell the sushi purists).

In practical terms, the biggest difference is the flag.

AFAIK, most countries that have elements of direct democracy do exactly that. It’s called a quorum.

I assume that’s supposed to be how it works, but constitutions have limited effect when we get the kinds of politicians who ignore the courts. I’d assume that direct democracies have very similar issues (see the 2024 UK race riots - those were fully illegal and yet they happened anyway).

I think we need to change our societies on a deeper level. Changing the constitution could be a start for that, but in the current political climate it probably wouldn’t really.

It’s too easy to whip up hate against minorities, especially against marginalized minorities (I’m sure the rich would still find a way to profit, despite being a minority themselves). When our western political systems were still working somewhat, minority protections was one of the major arguments for them.

e.g. Brexit was decided via direct democracy.

Seems to work for Switzerland, though Switzerland isn’t exactly a utopia of progressive politics (could be worse, but e.g. AFAIK being poor sucks a lot in CH).

Is it though? The whole “contoured torso” design is quite detrimental to protection, you want it bulging outward in a wide arc. And you don’t want your neck expossed like that, either. Though the person to the right of him with considerably less slutty armor has very similar design issues.
