Alpha Centauri system. I’d keep spending money until we got a working fusion reactor and Alcubierre Drive, open source the designs, and go check that shit out.
Oh shit, maybe I’m just banned lmao
Yeah, I also have a strong [left] libertarian bent, and I appreciate that .ee admins trust me to block servers I don’t want to see for myself. I think the only two that .ee has defederated from are lemmygrad and exploding heads (Nazis).
So, it’s all down to federation, essentially. If an instance allows its users to act in bad faith (lemmygrad, exploding heads, etc), then typically people will ask their instance admin to defederate from them or else move to a server that will. And if you can’t find a server you like? Great news! Just pull down the source code and start your own!
Okay, what violence did the pro-palestine movement spread, exactly?
I can accept that some buildings got torched and property values temporarily reduced during the George Floyd protests, but when I hear violence, I think harm against flesh and blood, which the police did much, much more of. I can’t think of many instances where the protestors did that.
What violence and chaos has the radical left spread in the last decade, pray tell
Best use of AI I’ve seen to date
Holy shit, bro, wow. Just wow. That’s where we’re at.
I recently wandered back after being on Lemmy for like a year and a half, and I was really surprised at just how much of the more recent posts were just botshit. I never seriously believed we’d see the dead internet, but contemporary Reddit is really mostly bots talking to LLMs talking to bots with a few users mixed in.
A shotgun is a really excellent choice. You don’t have to be crazy accurate at close quarters, but you can still reach out and touch someone (remember, they’re used for hunting Duck, Turkey, and Deer; games have to massively nerf their range because they’re OP in real life). The ammo is pretty much everywhere and pretty affordable compared to some others. Also, if things don’t kick off, you’re not stuck with some mall ninja kit.
One of the downsides of remote work is that I don’t really talk to anyone outside my political alignment anymore, so it’s hard for me to know anymore what’s a bot/astroturf campaign and what IRL conservatives are actually thinking anymore.
Yeah, seen my fair share of conservatives fail to preface their shock and disagreement with something with a lengthy apologia and get the banhammer for being a ‘brigadier’.
Stalkers, seek shelter immediately, an emission is approaching!
I mean, that’s fair, I figured it was probably close to inflation adjusted, but it’s still absolutely mad to see. I’m finally beginning to understand why my boomer dad would go around having a fucking stroke at all the prices in 2007; I think at some level, your frame of reference for what something costs gets stuck in whatever it was in your teens and early 20s.
I wish this was true anymore, but I was the the grocery store today looking at how the 6-pack ramen noodles are now $2.56. I can remember when they were a quarter. Not a quarter of 2.50, but just 25 cents.
In the US, you have a second amendment right to have a firearm. Most states, even blue ones, allow open carry of rifles and long guns provided that you follow certain rules (i.e. no pointing them at other people, keep them unloaded, etc). That is to say, in many states, you are perfectly within your rights to open carry a long gun at a peaceful protest. And if a bunch of your friends bring long guns, well, hey, that’s legal too! And hey, if a whole lot of people at the protest have guns with them when the cops decide they want to be fucking dicks, well, then I guess that’s one of the decisions they were free to make.
For reference of how open carry at protests can weigh on how the authorities respond, see the documentary Winter on Fire.
Also, you don’t have to start crazy, going to big huge protests hundreds of miles away. Start out easy, go to some city council and county supervisor meetings and speak publicly about what you think is important. You’ll meet other people there and have a chance to network and organize with them, and make connections to bigger movements that way.
Welcome! Enjoy your stay, and if you see that we’re missing a community you want, be the change you want to see in the world!
