I’m not saying they own it, but if you’ve built something from the beginning, even if the work isn’t 100% your own it’s extremely difficult to abandon it. It’s similar to open source software. How would you like it if some corpo, lobbyist, PsyOps operation, or straight dumbass, took the thing you built and co-opted it for personal gain? Just like software, they may feel an obligation to ensure it won’t fall into the wrong hands or be bastardized.

The fundamental issue really does seem to be education, which is why conservatives everywhere try to cripple and dismantle it. Conservatism in the US spearheaded anti-intellectualism, but the ideology everywhere else is not far behind; constantly appealing to the lowest common denominator. This proves that conservatism does not believe it can survive with an educated populace.

I’m guilty of calling them stupid myself, but the only thing that separates anyone from cavemen is education, and the psychopaths and narcissists of society have shown us that our education systems are not fit for purpose, and holding society back from progress. The failure in our ability to educate the majority sufficiently is one of the greatest threats we face.

It’s not. There is almost zero security improvement between a passkey vs a randomly generated password + 2FA.

The only concern is if you’re dumb enough to give away your password, or not activate 2FA on critical accounts.

You’ll find that nobody has a problem with passkeys specifically. They have a problem with the implementation, and companies forcing passkeys onto users who don’t want or need them.

I don’t need passkeys because I use a password manager. My threat model requires that I can restore my password manager, all 2FA, and regain full access to all my accounts from anywhere in the world, even if a natural disaster occurs and all my devices are destroyed.

Passkeys and SMS 2FA are a direct threat to my threat model, and I can’t help but feel they’re designed to further entrench surveillance capitalism, and the invasion of privacy as a prerequisite for security.

2FA is not SMS. SMS is the least secure, shittiest, and simplest form of 2FA, designed as the bare minimum for the average chucklefuck. Everywhere implemented it hastily because the average idiot still uses the same password for everything. It should be illegal as the only form of 2FA, but our governments are run by criminally corrupt dinosaurs.

Fun story! Back in 2017 I tried to remove SMS 2FA entirely, and switch to a data only mobile service. I use 2FA everywhere it’s available, but was able replace SMS with TOTP everywhere except banks, even on big tech platforms where you could only activate TOTP after adding a mobile number and enabling SMS 2FA (you could then remove the mobile number). I ultimately had to keep the voice service because banks required SMS 2FA, with no alternatives beyond their own custom 2FA apps, that can only be registered by SMS. Almost a decade later I have more SMS 2FA than ever before.

The moral of the story is we live in a clown world capitalist dictatorship.

The problem is that none of this revenue or profit is guaranteed to go to Firefox. It goes to Mozilla and they decide how it is spent. It could go to pocket, a new overpaid CEO, or a hundred other ways that don’t benefit FOSS.

I would have donated hundreds of dollars to Firefox development already, if that were possible, but that is not an option. The only option is Mozilla, and they may spend that on anything else but Firefox.

Also Mozilla VPN is shit. It is a severely limited implementation of Mullvad, and they even enshittified their browser for it. You can only have per container VPN’s (a major gain for user privacy) if you pay for Mozilla VPN… They’ve already chosen to harm their users privacy for profit. This is the kind of shit that guarantees I will never donate as long as a for profit entity has control over Firefox, and its features.

This is not the goal. Their only goal is wealth and power, just like Putin.

The Christian/Corporate Fascist Theocracies method to achieve wealth and power is to bankrupt the government, privatise all public services and land, remove the threat of democracy, and plunge the people back into feudalism… all while lining their pockets, exactly like the Russian oligarchs did post-USSR.

They do not give two shits about bringing jobs back to America or any of the other virtues they vacuously signal. They’re the kind of people who outsourced everything to China begin with.

A surplus of food is grown in the US. When you buy anything processed, it’s extremely hard to tell where all the ingredients came from. “Product of Mexico” could’ve been made with x from portugal, y from california.

Also there’s a good chance some of your gas comes from the states too, as they have been an exporter for a decade thanks to fracking.

Every comment is complaining about how this will be the death of reddit. None of them realize Reddit already died years ago, and they’re just getting high off the ashes.
