Interestingly, when I try and upload it as a png, lemmy doesn’t like it.
its a png with a transparent background of a finger pointing at a pregnancy test.
Not sure why its being blocked.

I had an idea for a Lemmy community called meme conversation. No words. Just posts and comments via memes. Not sure it really works though.

I would fucking live to prepare that for you, but I’m utterly fucked in terms of my time right now. I took on a second job (technically a third, because I already had two full time commitments) to prepare to leave the country.
I’ll book mark this and do my best to get something together for you.
No modern boycotts have been shown to be effective.
The last genuinely effective “boycott” was the bds movement focused on SA, which created real pressure.
BDS movements have been effective because they go well above and beyond boycotts, and in some ways, its easier to target “all” of a national economy than it is to single out singular companies. That action also took place in a world of reduced globalization.
More broadly we should all be considering the relevance of individual versus collective action. There was a real propaganda effort to drive peoples thinking to be focused on individual action as a means for creating social change. Be the change, recycling, changing your habits, etc. It shifted the focus from the responsibility being on those creating the damage to consumers, and it had a range of outcomes.
One of the most important is that individual action, while basically meaningless, acts as an analgesic towards further action. Its a way to create a sense of relief that something has been “done” while nothing meaningful has changed. If this psychological pain reliever prevents the escalation to the use of force or more extreme actions, its done its job to protect the system. There are very good reasons why the system accepts individual actions, are supported almost exclusively over collective or more extreme behavior.

Where do I learn cootie catcher programing?
yeah I think it would be more clarifying if you kept the modes distinct.
I like the focus on accuracy and it’s citations. I’ve tried deep research (in contrast with chat got) few times and it’s generations have been basically worthless.
I definitely have a use for something like this, but similarly to most of the issues I have with the applied use of these products, it boils down to a few consistent issues around guard rails, a kind of cautious insistence on singular approaches, and a lack of agency.
For example, I would live to be able to drop it a guy hub link and have it dig through the repo, and write me an ipynb demonstrating the capabilities of the repo. Or where I could give it a script, sloppy with a bunch of my own garbage in it, and it cleans it up and makes it nice. Deep research is no where near capable of this and I attribute it to an overly cautious development approach on the part of OpenAI. As well, because of structural limits, these models lack the kind of nested or branched thinking that would be required to hold onto big picture goals and concepts.
I do however think we’ll see things change with the new gpts coming out which are much cheaper to run for inference. Basically, to do the kind of work that deep research claims to be doing, we need a more complex internal model structure with many gpts running in both series and parallel, perhaps in more of a graph model.
I also don’t think it will be OpenAI to do this. They’ve been too cautious with their development approach.
At the end of the day I want what deep research claims to be, but it’s clearly not it yet.
Hmm. Interestingly it barely covers anything from deep research outside of the first and last sections.
Please, all sane nations of the world, unite against the US.
We weren’t able to stem the tide.
About fucking time. He was a traitor in 2021 and should still be considered as much.
Exactly. If they do ever become a thing, if thats even possible, it would be a special card like a graphics card.
If you believe it’s the force of law that resolved the question: it wasn’t, it was the force of violence. The resolution of that question was through the use of force and it’s the use of force that keeps that resolution in place, not the force of law.
no wonder barrel jacks were never used to transfer data…
Oh you sweet summer child. As someone who bridged the gap between analog and digital sensing systems, I assure you, they were. I think it would be hard for almost anyone who grew up/ technically developed in the all digital age to believe some of the wack-ass shit we used to do to make things work. I had a technical career in the military in the period of transition from basically hybrid analog/ digital systems, to mostly digital systems. There were PLENTY of systems that used something not any more complicated than a barrel jack for doing so. Power, communications, you name it. But these were very simple systems relative to what we do now. And the reason why matched your thinking throughout this post. They are incredibly robust, simple connectors. They can rotate without issue. They are incredibly common and can be widely versatile. They are basically bullet proof, and if need be, I could solder in a jumper or just pinch a couple wires together holding my fingers to make it work if the cable were to fail.
IIRC, and I’m long in the tooth so it might be a bit muddled, I remember it taking almost 2 days for one computer system to warm up (to quite literally warm up physically to temperature and become stable), and when we had to load the operating system, we used reel to reel digital audio tape. You quite literally had to manually move the tape back and forth to find the start byte sequence. And that system used a headphone jack to give you a digital output display (not entirely; the computer and display system for had to do the analog to digital conversion).
Its also just like. Its not there yet.
It cant make a full wine glass.
