Mass hysteria, also, there is a more boring reason. Most people aren’t really paying attention. I was at the gun store yesterday talking to one of the clerks about one of the AKs behind the counter. Mentions “ammo used to be dirt cheap but you can’t get it anymore” (steel case ammo used to come from Russia), I joke with him “well maybe not for much longer”.
