

Another title is needed. The term “Fortress Europe” is too tightly associated with fascism (literally the Nazis used it during WW2 until 1942 for territories occupied by Italy and Germany) and, more recently, with the European immigration and refugee politics of closed borders and FRONTEX pushbacks. Luckily it’s not repeated in the song itself.

The term was deemed “too defensive sounding” by nazi Germany from 1942 onward and replaced by other terms like Atlantikwall.
The song itself is quite ambiguous. Can be used both by progressive european federalists and nationalists/fascist, depending on the context.
