- 16 Alternatives To Audible for Ethical Audiobook Lovers
- 9 Best Online Bookstores That Aren’t Amazon
Quite some of the companies in these three lists are American so they might not be the best eu alternatives, but still wanted to share these three lists.
I’ve posted this in a different post before, but I’ll copy it here.
Amazon alternatives for the NL:
General:
Computers:
Electronics:
- Mediamarkt
- AlleKabels - They sell all kinds of cables
Clothes:
Groceries:
Drugs and cosmetics:
Bikes:
Do It Yourself:
Office:
Furniture:
Second hand marketplace:
There is probably a lot I am forgetting. I’ll keep adding to the list as I think of different places
Crisp is also a very good option for groceries as their main focus is selling products that are produced locally or in Europe.
Added it to the list
Always check
and
when buying ebooks since they sell drm-free (so you’re actually buying nit renting).
Weightless books doesn’t sell to EU users though
In the UK:
- Waterstones - bricks and mortar shop
- Awesome Books - online only, often the cheapest price
- Hay-on-Wye - the town of books
I’ve found John Lewis and Argos to be pretty decent replacements for Amazon. Similar shipping times, and decent variety.
Waterstone’s (and now Blackwells as Waterstones bought them) are majority owned by an American investment company with a minority shareholder being a Russian billionaire.
In April 2018, Elliott bought a majority stake in Waterstones, leaving Alexander Mamut’s Lynwood Investments with a minority holding.[80] The sale completed in May 2018. James Daunt will remain as chief executive.[81]

We can’t have anything nice.
@then_three_more @Emperor https://www.toppingbooks.co.uk/ these guys are a small but growing UK chain who can send you most things
For physical books you should alway prioritise local libraries.
