I mean… Tbh this does seem reasonable in exchange for their protection.
But so did the extra taxes in the 1700s when we saved the 13 colonies as well, and the yanks made a fuss over that
Britain picked fights with the French, the Spanish, and Austria, then expected their colonies to foot the bill.
Isn’t that kind of what colonies are for? Extracting money from land you took from the people who lived there before?
If that’s how you treat people you shouldn’t be surprised when they ‘cause a fuss’ and kick you out.
I agree, on both levels.
